“The Church is the only society that exists for the benefit of those who are not its members.”
Archbishop William Temple uttered those words while visiting the Church in Wales. And the reality he speaks to is one of the many reasons I love the Church. And, it’s one of the many reasons I love our local Church. At All Saints East Dallas you belong the minute you arrive on the property. We believe that as you encounter God and his people in Scripture, Spirit, and Sacraments, your believing and behaving will come along.
Saturday May 20, we’ll be having our next Membership Class. You may ask, “Jay, why do we need to be members if we already belong?” God is building his Church in East Dallas. He has called us to partner with him in this pioneering work. Joining All Saints East Dallas is a way you can commit to that work with this people in this place with your heart, soul, mind and strength.
Joining is also a next step in following Jesus, your next step in growing in your commitment to him and his Church, and the way that you can help realize in your person the truth that the “Church is the only society that exists for the benefit of those who are not its members.”
In addition, you’re not just becoming a member of All Saints East Dallas. You are joining the global Anglican Communion because upon taking the Membership Class, and signing the Membership Covenant, you’ll be Confirmed by our Bishop, Philip, and be brought into communion with the one holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
As Jesus draws people to himself in and through our Church, he gives to us the joy and call to grow in his image and likeness, to go further up and further in. Let us join God in his mission to the world at All Saints East Dallas.
