Expectantly Walking in the Light

Advent has to be one of my favorite times of year. I love how everyone is getting geared up for Christmas: office parties, neighborhood parties, Christmas lights everywhere, decorations, friends and families huddled around a wreath praying and singing. It's a fun and festive time of year. It’s a time full of potential, full of possibility.

And the power of this possibility is God calling us in the midst of the shining lights, parties, and decorations. He’s asking us to step into Advent, to walk with him in the light, to re-order lives with the expectancy of his second coming and transforming power, to be sober and teachable, slowly learning from him the unforced rhythms of grace.

Advent offers us a unique moment to receive God’s divine embrace. This fatherly, loving embrace was initiated by God and spoken of through the prophets, fulfilled in Jesus’ birth long ago in Bethlehem, demonstrated in power through his cross and resurrection, ascension, and outpouring of the Holy Spirit.  And now this embrace is part of our own longing as we eagerly await Christ’s second coming.

Please step into this season of grace. Hear God’s call, open your heart to his embrace, and prepare the way for him to work in powerful ways. Be watchful not just for his second coming, but for his powerful work in and around your life. Seeing this work, participating in it is gift enough this season.

Join us for Sunday worship each week in Advent. Join us for Morning Prayer each Wednesday morning at 8:15 am, and let us walk in the light together.
