Next Tuesday is Election Day in the United States. We have all endured a long, drawn out and sometimes very ugly primary and general election campaign season. It is one that has turned out to be stranger than fiction.
I don’t often talk about politics directly while preaching, but this Sunday I’m going to be addressing the contest. As part of the service and focus on the election, we’ll pray together the collect below and look at our responsibility as Americans, and more importantly as Christians - citizens of the kingdom of God - in the upcoming election.
Join me now in praying this prayer:
Almighty God, to whom we must account for all our powers and privileges: Guide the people of the United States in the election of officials and representatives; that, by faithful administration and wise laws, the rights of all may be protected and our nation be enabled to fulfill your purposes; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
